Maurice Ashley is the world’s first Black Chess Grandmaster in history. And still, he considers himself a student. We launched ‘Maurice & The Black Bear School’, a Hennessy V.S campaign that gives us a look into one of the greatest minds—one that knows infinite possibilities, one that’s been shaped as much by his opponents as himself, and one that pushes beyond mastery, whatever that is.
The campaign included shorter lessons, as well as a documentary of Maurice and The Black Bear School, the group of chess players in Prospect Park that taught Maurice the game.
